1st you join to the faction as a mercenary group. While you are fought against the enemy nations and prove your loyalty for your faction then you can go ask to pledge an oath for faction leader. Key difference is you are not rewarded fiefs as a mercenary. i am new to the game but this is my current understanding of it based of of my experiance
Emperor1997. Yes, Kingdoms should have a mercenary clan limit, vassal clan limit and Kingdom tiers. They have clans with tiers, but Kingdoms have no tiers. Kingdoms should get tiers.
Reaching Clan Tier 2 and Recruiting. No matter what you do, you'll slowly progress towards Clan Tier 2 eventually. Why is that important? Well, Clan Tier 2 allows you to work as a mercenary for the various lords and ladies of Calradia, which will eventually make getting renown and money a lot easier and will also work towards getting a reputation with those lords and ladies.
For every 1 point of influence you get x amount of money. It does not convert all at once tho. You can abuse this by picking up recruits and donating them to garrison for influences. (20 denar for 0.66 influence) and/or donate looters to the dungeon. I made 50k in like 1 hour by just doing this. Wow great tip!

A faction needs to be at war before it starts looking for mercenary help. Hiring mercenaries in peacetime is a waste of money. Once you are a merc with a faction, though, I'm almost certain you can renew your contract as long as you please regardless of war. I don't think kings ever hire mercenaries, only lords.

You can't join a kingdom as a mercenary if you have a fief, you have to join at vassal rank and you will keep your fief (s) Thank you for your response. Saved my precious Quyaz. Beware tho, if you leave after being a vassal the kingdom will see the fief as its own so you'll have to defect with it or give it up.
The only thing you can do is go to nearby villages and get some recruits, once you get them, the only thing you can do is find some bandits to hunt, I recommend finding looters since more advanced bandits (Sea Raiders,Mountain Bandits, etc) may kick your ass.
